OPENING OF THE SEASON. Tho advent of mid-spring is marked by the roturn of tho bowlers to their beloved bowling greens. There is a thick mat of grass on overy green, and the clubs- aro bestirring themselves ■ to make the most of what is a .forward, season. A start will be made on Sat--, urdaynext, when tho Karori Club will open its green- to members and friends from other clubs, but the popular date for club openings will be tho following Saturday (October 2), when tho Wellington, Victoria, and Newtown Clubs will commence operations. _ The Lyall Bay Club has fixed its open, ing for Saturday, October 9. \ HATAITAI CLUB MEETS. The annual meeting, of the Hataitai Bowling Club was held last evening, ovor >10 members attending, and Mr. I'enney presiding. Tho annual report and balance-shcot wore adopted, after boing fully discussed. Hie election of officers resulted as follows: —Messrs. W. W. Pilkington (president), Mitchell and M'Whannell (directors), Hendry (secretary, re-elected), and Kinniburgh (treasurer, re-elected), Choeseman (assistant secretary), Edwards (auditor, re-eleet-'ed); delegates to tho Wellington Bowling. Coiitro, JCinneburgh, 0. Hendry; selectors, Baillev, A. Clarridge, and Nasmitli; Social Committee, Blick, Gylesj Pilkington, M'Lean, Feilding, M'Kittrick, Nasmitli, and Anstey.

PIGEON-RACING A race under the auspices of . the Hutt Valley Homing Pigeon Club was flown from Hawera oil .Saturday, tho results being:—Booth Bros.' "Nighthawk" and W. and L. Booth's "Daisy Bell," time 2hrs. 28min. Joscc., velocity 1387-67 yards per minute, tied for first place; G. W. Whitehead's ''Keystone," time 2hrs. 29min., velocity 1337.18yd5. per minute, 2. Booth Bros, secured two firsts in the pools,- and' G. W. Whitehead two seconds. The next race will be flown from Now Plymouth.
