Following upon t'no convictions recorded in tho charges against tlio Amalgamated Wireless Company, of Australasia, Ltd., 15. Fisk, C. P. Bartholomew, and H. 11. Denisdn, under the Enemy Trading Acts, for having, on or about December 8, by executing a.'i indenture of licenses with tho Tclefunlcen Company, and so traded witli tlio enemy, Fisk, Bartholomew, and Denison were each filled £10, ana tJfo, company a similar amount. The Magistrate said that tlio defendants had traded with tlio enemy within tlio meaning of tho Statute, but tliere was no case calling for drastic punishment, there being the mitigating. circumstances, that after tho war began, the defendants offered tho Common- , wealth Government^the services of their wireless staffs, and ■ this, assistance was availed of; they liad also acted on legal advice. Direct taxation increased by £627,011, and the railway and tramway receipts decreased by' £24,055. ' •/• The Public 'Debt increased by £11,040,374, which is now £137,735.405. .' Six of the State industrial undertakings: show an aggregate loss of £32,222 and eight an aggregated gain of £32,495. The net loss involved since the inauguration of the undertakings totals £21,212.' ■
