THREE DAYS ON THE RUSSIAN FIGHTING FRONT TERRIFIC BATTLE RA GING By Telcgrapli—Press Association—Copyright (Eec. September 21, 0.20 a.m.) London, September 20. The "Times" correspondent at Dvinsk .writes: "1 spent three days at the fighting front, where a terrific battle 'is raging. The Russians are holding Dvinsk with an excellent line of trenches, three deep. The first line has been taken many times, but the coun-ter-attacks have.recaptured them every time. The Germans are twice and thrice' the Russian strength, and have an enormous superiority in guns. Undoubtedly the Germans are paying two to one |n losses. The nature of the country is ideal for defensive operations;" RUSSIAN COMMUNIQUE. (Reo." Septem'osr 21, 0.20 a.m.) Petrograd, September 20. • A communique states: "German detachments have crossed the left bank or the Middle Vilia, m the .Vilna district. "We sank-a bridge of boats 'near Poratchie, north of Slonim, taking prisoner Germans who had previously crossed. "We inflicted considerable losses on the enorny 6outli of Slonim, as he was only able to throw small parties into the firing line." '
