The news of Stefansson was secured through tho power schooner ltuby, which-went north to search for the expedition and also to bring supplies to the Canadian North-West Mounted Police. Stefansson discovered now land southwest of Princo Land. He does not propose to return home until he has ascertained the full extent of the new country, which hitherto 3iad not been suspected. Stefansson, with one schooner left, intends to ascertain if the neiv land is the supposed Polar continent, which' many previous explorers believo exists off Princo Patrick's Land. THE NEW, LANDS. (Rcc. September 19, 5.25 p.m.) New York, September 17. The. American Geographical Society is convinced that new land has been discovered by Stefansson. It is situated 78 degrees north and 17 west, and has 1000 miles of-coast line. The explorer discovered a long range of mountains twenty miles inland. Tlio new area is further north than any yet discovered; and lies near tho I'arry Archipelago, the surrounding ocean being comparatively shallow. ' This discovery disposes of Nansen's theory that tho Arctic was surrounded by ■ water, and that there was little land in the north. '
