At tlio Town Hall on Saturday afternoon a presentation was mado to tho Countess of Liverpool by the officers of the Maori Contingent. Captain Bice, in making tlio presentation, referred to the good work tlio _ Countess of Liverpool had done in looking after the comfort of tlio men, both here, and in Egypt. She had been pleased to admire their epergne vdieu she dined with! them' at Narrow Neck (at Takapuna, Auckland), and they had much pleasure in presenting lier with one similar to it. The presentation was a graceful epergne of brass, made from a Impounder shell in Auckland. The Countess of Liverpool responded briefly. On the call of the Mayor cheers were (liven for tlie Maori Contingent, Their Excellencies, and Sir James Carroll. Tlio following changes iu the Publio Service aro beuig maao:—Mr. 6. H. M'Clure, Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor at luveroargiU, has been appointed to a similar position' at Wellington, and his place will be taken by Mr. H. D. M. Haszard, who has been Commissioner for the Westland land district. ' Mr. A. C. Brotherton, chief clerk in the Public Trust Office at Duuedin, lias been appointed chief examiner 111 the Public Trust Offico at Wellington, and his placo will be taken by Mr. G. H. Clicsterman, examining clork at Wellington.
Mr. S. Myerscough, Mus. 8., Oxon., F.8.C.0., arrived from the north on Saturday evening on his examining tour of New' Zealand. Ho will start examining candidates for Trinity of Music examination at the Town Hall, this morning.
