September *17, 9.55 p.m.) London,' September 16. - Tho War Office reports that sixty British and a hundred Indian infantry surprised a strong enemy patrol on Tuesday eight miles southward of Maktau, in East Africa. A sharp fight followed, and tho oneiny fled, leaving one white and thirty-oil© natives dead, besides many wounded. British casualties were three dead and eight wounded. Rifles and ammunition wore captured.
