THE GERMAN PLOT AT RABAUL
DEEP-LAID SCHEME GENERAL RISING JUST AVERTED By Teleeraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, September 15. Private advices show that the German attempt to recapture R aba ill was more formidable than was at first supposed. All the Germans were t liberty on parole, which they appear to have deliberately violated. Most careful preparations for a rebellion had been made. Stores of rifles and ammunition and large quantities of dynamite were discovered in the Germans' houses, which wore secretly connected by telephone. Systematic attempts were made to stir up the natives against tho British. The plot was discovored only just in time to prevent a general rising. All the Germans were yarded up. When.proofs of the treachery were disclosed tho authorities appear to have acted with promptitude and efficiency.
