NEW STL VIA COMPANY. : The report-of;tho directors of the New Sylvia Gold Mining Company for the halfyear ended June 30 is. as follows:— - The,battery resumed, crushing. about tho :middle of.-March with - ono " shift, and-" In April increased to full time. Tho battery figures, therefore, only, represent about three months',. crushing' out of'the- six under review.' The stone; crushed was all from development.work south of the winze, and although payable was lower in value than your directors-anticipated. ■ What is deferred .to, as-the winze is really now the' temporary-winding shaft. This winze car-' ried tho stone down from No. 4 level the full dopth of 134 feet 'without either wall being seen and on stone of a very good Quality.,

In driving north from the winze the reef maintained its size and quality for about 40 feet; and then became broken and intermixed'with country, rock, and although it has since become ' more compact, is Email and'irregular in the level face. The leading stope,' ; howover, that has, been;brought along'north right over the back o£ the level has proved the reef to be ■widenirig.Vout again overhead, and proves the level north has been driven in a broken part of the *eef. South of the -winze the reef in iplaces has been as wide as twentyeight feet. of clean quartz. It is now .smaller' but;; more defined , in the stones overhead; arid, maintaining a more regular -width of'from'six to ten feet. Now that sufficient rises are through to No. 4 level: for ventilation,' stoping will bo carried along for the;, full length of ..the reef, and wc . have every reason to believe the stone' will then average out and)prove more highly'payable for the next two or three years. Meantime, vigorous prospecting work: will be carried out by extending the No. .s'level both north and: south into ■ practically; maiden 1 country, but where., years ago, payable stone was. worked hundreds of '-feefcvdverhead on the It is your'directors': intention at t.he end of the financial ryear to debit book to profit anrl loss - the total cost of the low level 'tunnel standing to credit of development account ,'in the balance-shcet attached hereto.

WORK AT THE WATERSIDE 9 MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION. At tho first annual meeting of the Wellington C'o-operativo Waterside Employment Association, irhich was held yesterday, Mr. W. Bennett, manager, reported as follows:—The business was commenced on August IS, 1914, and owing to the outbreak of war in Europe the committee has been uuablo to put into operation the full scheme, but the success which has attended the efforts of tlio association is 'proved by contrasting the excellent relations at present existing between the men, through their union, and the employers, and the very disturbed stato of labour in the waterfront this time last year. For the 52 weeks under review the association lins paid in wages .£157,,9-15 as. 3d., in some 54,303 payments, to an. average of 1014 men, making an average wage for the casual workers on. (ho wharf far members of this association of £2 ISs. Id. per week per man. The Harbour Board has undertaken to provide shelter for men at places of engagearriving at a satisfactory solution to this matter by adopting the scheme put forward by _ the' committee, and tho necessary alterations to the men's waiting room are in hand. The committee.' oonsistina of Messrs. W. G. Foster, W. A. Kennedy, G. B. Bullock, W. E. Fuller, A. A. Thomson, W. A. Flavell, aiid Capt. Chudley, was re-elected.
