BILLIARDS

ITCONACHY BEATS J. H. OWEN,

The exhibition, game between these two well-known players wad witnessed by several ' lnmdred enthusiasts. Mr.' M'Conachy, who is tho professional champion of New Zealand, conceded Mr. Owen, winner of the Crystalate Cup (amateur), 500 points in 1000. The game, on the whole, was not brilliant, although there were times. when M'Conachy showed evidence of tho, great skill he possesses in- losing hazard and also in ,top of. the table'play. Mr. Owen was not up to his Crystalate Cup finals form, but' he got some very clever shots, and. by careful intelligent play got the. balls nicely together, and notched many a comfortable break in tho vicinity of 30. The best breaks were:—M'Conachy, 113, 67, 107, 61, 69, gfl, 142; Owen, 3i, 60, 32, 28,- 34. Both players complimented Messrs. Alcock and Co., Ltd., on the excellent table they had provided and for the . completeness of their arrangements in connection with the match. Another game by the same players will be contested on Saturday next at Otaki, where an exhibition game has been arranged'for them on-the opening night of the new Otaki Club. ■ ".. ,■'
