A Golden Wedding. .The lion. G. Joies (chairman of directors of the "Southland News") and Mrs. Jones colebrated their goldon wedding very rocently. 'J'.iey were married in Christchurch on September 13, 1805, by the Rev. J. Bulier, Wesloyan minister, tho bride being Miss Dorothy Tweedy, daughter of .tho lato Mr. Stephen Tweedy, of Brooksidc, Canterr bury. Mr. Jones founded tho "Waikatfl Times" and the Auckland "Echo." Later on, in conj miction with others, lie established tho "Evening News," in Duncdin. The Oamaru "Mail" was purchased in 1577,-and in tlmb town the family has, lived over since. Mr. Jonea lias been a Legislative Councillor since 1895. The family consists of live sons aiid four daughters: Messrs. Ci. S.Jones (Oamaru), W. J. Jones (Invercargill), C. F. A. Jones (Invercargill), Fred. Jones (Oamaru), and Frank Jones (Oamaru), Miss Dora Jones (Oamaru), Mrs. F. W. Dawson' (Auckland), Mrs. A. C. Gilford (Wellington), and Mrs. J. M. Bulleid (Oamaru). Mr. and Mrs. Jones have enjoyed robust health for many years. Dance Recital. The dance recital wliich is to bo given in tho Grand Opera House this evening by Miss Campbell's pupils, in aid of tho Wounded Soldiers' Fund and the Mayor's Patriotic Funds, promises to lie both interesting and pretty. Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, Mrs. W. F. Massey, and tho Mayoress, Mrs. J. P. Luke,, have promised to be present. Miss Campbell lias some clever little dancers among her pupils, and they will wear some very pretty frocks. Miss Campbell will herself, take part in some of the dances, wearing a ■'Priscilla' Prendergast" frock. In tho second part of tho programme will be given a "Ballet des Heures," in. which will be seen Miss Campbell, Miss Frances Muter, Miss Nesta Carwell Cooke, Miss Doris Hickson, and others.
' We are asked to state that the donation of £10 towards the Military Hospital Guild credited to Miss. Speed _in Monday's issue is the monthly donation from the Women's Political Reform League, of which Miss Speed is secretary. - A "flower day" in aid of providing comforts for wounded soldiers was held in Carterton on Saturday, when the sum of £30 .was raised.

Mrs. Howard Booth (Carterton) and Miss Effie Booth arts visiting Wellington. : • Sirs. Tringliam (Pigeon Bush) is visiting Wellington. Mrs. F. Pearce (Moroa, Greytown) is paying, a short visit to Wellington. Mrs. "Hugh Williams (Masterton) is visiting Wellington.
At the usual weekly meeting of the Ladies' Guild of tlio New Zealand Natives' Association held on Monday afternoon matters in connection with the formation of a sewing guild or circlo were discussed. Members are determined to seo that they have always on hand supplies of clothing ready for soldiers who may have returned sick or wounded from the front, and also for those nearer homo who may be for some reason or another experiencing a shortage in regard to their wardrobe. For this reason the sewing guild is being formed.
Miss Kofctenberg, who instituted and arranged the library at tlie Soldiers' I|oom in Sydney Street, acknowledges large parcels' of books from Mr. R. Turnbull, Dr. Newman, M.P., Mrs. Mandel, Hi's. E. J. Hyams, Mrs. Gear, Miss Sheridan, Mrs. J. Myers, Mrs. Miranis, and Miss Kirkcaldie.
Mrs. and Miss Elworthy returned to Christeluivch last week from Wellington.. . Mrs. Rosewarne (Napier) left for Wellington on Monday. The wedding took place at the residence of Mrs. Redge, Napier, on Saturday, of Miss Annie Barttam, daughter of the late Mr. Thoiuas Barttam, of Staffordshire, England, and Mr. Austin Gannaway, eldest son of Mr. F. Gaiinaiyay, late of Napier.
