The death occurred at Trentham Hospital yosterday of Private John Watson, "D" Co., 7thßeinforcements. The cause of death was cerebro-spinal meningitis. Deceased, who came from W'inton, Southland, was 29 years of age. He was admitted to Trentham Hospital on July 9, suffering from influenza, and on the following day became seriously ill. . v
Mr. Salvatore .Cimino, Benior, of Eastbourne, received cable advice yesterday morning to the effect that his son, Lance-Corporal Francis . (Peter) Atliol Cimino, had been killed in action at Gallipoli on August 8. The deceased who was only 21 years of age and an extremely likeable boy was a junior reporter on the "Evening Post" prior to the war, and gave promise of being a sound pressman. On the outbreak of war lie volunteered, and was made a corporal in the Force that was dispatched to seize Samoa, Ou his return he was so anxious to go to the .front that he relinquished his 6tripes, 'and went to the front as a private with the Fourth Reinforcements, and later was promoted to be lance-corporal. Peter was popular on both sides of the harbour, and his loss will be sincerely mourned. The Wairarapa Presbytery yesterday nominated the Rev. F. W. Currie, Balclutha, as Moderator for the next General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New'Zealand.—Press Association.
Captain D. B. Blair, reported to be in the military hospital at Rae-el-tin, Alexandra, suffering from a gunshot wound in the hand and laryngitis, is well known in OJiristchitrch, and is a very popular officer. His career has been an exceptionally adventurous one. Born at Wanganui, he was educated at Wanganui College, and after being associated with the College Cadets he joined the Alexandra Cavalry Volunteers. Later, he left New Zealand and went to' the Klondike, and joined the North-West' Mounted Polioe. Returning to New Zealand, he joined- the 2nd and Bth Contingents, and after serving in Africa until May, 1902, ho was selected to proceed Homo with the King Edward Coronation Contingent. For some time he was in America, and on March 7, 1911, was appointed to the New Zealand Staff Corps, being Adjutant to the Ist Mounted llifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry). He has the Queen's Medal, with six clasps, and the Coronation Medal. • ;
A gathering of commercial travellers in Wanganui entertained Mr. W. F. Spindle/, late stationmaster at Marton; and now of Timaru, at Chavannes' Hotel, on Saturday last. Mr. Spindler was presented with an autograph album signed by the commercial travellers-con-cerned, and was handed mementos for Mrs. and Miss Spindler. .
Mr. Edward Stirling Pearce, a member of Levin and Oo.'s staff, and a cousin of Mr. A. E. aned G. F. Pearce, died in the Davis Street private hospital yesterday morning at the age of ■46 years, and out of respect to his memory the flags of Levin and Co. and some of tho adjacent warehouses were flown at half-mast. The deceased, who was a native of Manchester, had resided in Wellington for the past twenty years. Ho was a member of the Wellington Golf Club, and was formorly a member of. the Wellington Bowling Club, and a hockey player. He was unmarried. A sorvico will be held at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral at 9.30 a.m. to-day, immediately preceding the interment. •
Budge' William Oliver, killed in action on August 15, was a son of Mr. W. Oliver, of Glenhope, Nelson, and of Mrs. L. Oliver, Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt. He was born in Nelson twenty-nine years ago, and for the past two years out of the four he had lived in Wellington he had been oil the Staff of Messrs. Charles Begg and Co., in this City. He served in Samoa, and on returning to Wellington joined the sth Reinforcements.

The death occurred in Wellington oil Monday of Mr. Joseph Bridge, a wellknown and highly esteemed member of' the staff of John Chambers and Son, Ltd. As a member of the Commercial Travellers' Club the deceased took an active part in Taising money for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. He came to New Zealand from England about seven years ago, and was of a most- genial and kindly disposition. The funeral will leave tho Sacred Heart Basilica at 9.30 a.m. to-morrow for Karori. Mr. J. W. Bridge, dental surgeon, formerly of Wellington, and now of WaverlCy, is a cousin of tile deceased, and lias come to Wellington to be present at tho funeral. Out of respect for the memory of the deceased tho premises of John Chambers and Son will be closed this morning.
News has been receivad that Private It. R-. Chapman, son of the late Mr. Thomas Chapman, formerly of Dunedin, and brother of Mr. T. J. Chapman, of the Bristol Piano Co., Ltd., lias been severely wounded (gunshot) in the abdemon. Private Chapman enlisted with tho 13th Australian Battalion, and is at present in hospital at Malta.
Captain E. W. Cozens, of AVellington, has received intimation that illio soil, Lance-Corporal Lewis' Cozens, of tho 4th Australian Infantry, and wellknown in Wellington, where 110 resided for many years, has' again been wounded at tile Dardanelles. Lance-Corporal Cozens was wounded during the first attack on Galia Tepo last April, and was sent to hospital ill Egypt. He recovered sufficiently to rejoin *Ais regiment early in July, but sustained a broken arm and three other wounds at the Suvla Hay attack early in ;\»- gu»t,_ He has been sent to Kinr; George ioitjital, London, for trfeatntenJs. ■
Mr. Geo. E. Baker, manager ill Wellington for Reuter's Telegraph Company, leaves to-morrow on a, holiday trip to America and England by the Marama. Mr. Mas. Gjedstead, late manager in New Zealand for the Clement Mason Film Company, has left oil a visit to America. Ho was accompanied by Mrs. Gjcdsted. Mr. F. E. Ford has been appointed district storekeeper, AYellington Military District. He commenced duty and took charge of Defence Stores, Palmerston North, on June 21. Past-Arch Bro. F. Haven ivas elected secretary of the Melrose Lodge, No. 66, U.A.O.D.j'at a meeting of members last evening. Past Arch Bro. G. Everitt was clected outside guardian, and Past Arch Bro. Williams auditor.
