Wedding at Lower Hutt. A military wedding was celebrated at St. Peter's and St. Paul's Church, Lower Hutt, last Saturday morning, when Lieutenant J. M. Power, of the A.S.C., son of Mr. J. Power, of Waihi, was married to Miss Minnie M'Dougall, eldest daughter of Mr. J. W. F. M'Dougall, Lower Hutt. The officiating priest was the Dev. Father Walsh. Members of tho bridegroom's company formed a guard of honour. The bride .was gowned in white satin, with a tullo Veil and wreath of orange blossoms, awl she carried a slicaf of white arum lilies, with white satin She was attended, by her auut, MissWWearv r or, of Napier, who wore peacock blue crepe de cheno and white tulle, hat, trimmed with pink daisies. She carried a shower-bouquet of pink anemones. The mother of tlie bride wore' a navy blue costume, .ivith a, Tuscan straw hat with pink flowers, and carried a posy of violets and maiden-hair fern. Among the guests were: Mrs. Piggin (sister of tho bridegroom), Mrs. T. and Miss M'lntyre, Mr. W. Nicholson and Mrs. Nicholson,'Mr. H. Parker and tho Misses E. Parker (two), and Higginbotham. The_ bridegroom was attended by one of his brother officers, Lieutenant M'Arthiir, who presented tho bride with a silver . teapot and a miniature silver sword. Tho bridegroom's gift to. tho bride ivas a gold wristlet watch, and to tho bridesmaid a silver purse. The reception was held at the parents' residence,* after which the brido and bridegroom left, bj' motorcar for tho north. The bride travelled in a khaki costume and pale pink hat. The bridegroom leaves for the front with the Eighth Reinforcements.

Read, I'ihama, Taranaki, and grand-daughter of the late Mrs. J. L. Moflitt, was married to Lieutenant IS. C. N. Robinson, of the Bth.Keiniorcemonts, only son of Mr. and Mrs., Robinson, Surrey, England. Tho ceremony was ■performed, by the Rev. Father Barra; The bride, who was given away by liqi- father, wore a navy blue cloth military costume, and French hat of pale pink and palo blue, trimmed with roses, and carried a pretty bouquet. The following recipo for a Christ-ma's cake for tho soldiers .at tho front, guaranteed to be excellent iu quality, and to travel in good condition if the directions aro carefully followed out, has been supplied by Mrs.'Robinson, a member of one of the Town Hall committees working for the soldiers. The directions are as follow: —2:}lb. flour, ljlb. sugar, lib. currants, lib. raisins, lib. sultanas, -Jib. lemon peel, £lb. cooking almonds, lib: butter, 10 eggs, 1 small .teaspoon soda, 2 small teaspoons cream of tartar. Cream tlio butter and sugar, add the well-beaten eggs, mis tho soda and cream of Tartar with the Hour, then gradually stir all the ingredients into the uixture. This makes two cakes. Bako for four hours. Have the oven rather Shot at first to prevent the fruit settling, then a steady moderate lieat to finish the baking. Cut d(>wn a, 51b; tea tin to five inches deep, line with six thicknesses of brown paper and one of white, and bake your mixture in two of these tins. ' When baked, remove the pap'ors, ice the cakes thinly round _ ■ the sides and thickly oil the top with ail iciiig made of the whites of two eggs and enough icing sugar to mix.. When the icing has sot, pack the cake, in the tin in which it was baked, put the lid of .your tea tin on, and 6eal with wax or solder, and your cake is raady for post--iug to your soldier. Tho icing helps to keep the cake moist.

Miss Mac Lean, Matron in Chief of tho New Zealand Avmy Nursing Service, who accompanied the of 50 nurses who went to' England in the Jtenmera, and who are now in Egypt, is returning to New Zealand. She left the Mediterranean in the Australian transport Euripides on August 28. Miss Vera James arrived in Wellington from Sydney yesterday, and is the guest of Mrs. J.
