. FLOWER DAY IN DUNEDIN. ■ Dunedin, September 13. A iiowcr day on Saturday for leather waistcoats and the Italian Ked Cross Fund resulted in 4151 being netted. OTAGO'S PROPOSALS. Dunedin, September 13. At a meeting of the Otago Patriotic and Welfare Association to-day the following scheme was submitted as an indication, and guide to tho delegates representing the association at tho conference at Wellington on "Wednesday, to consider relief funds (1) Local effort for raising of fundsi. (2) Local administration of such funds with (a) co-operation with other associations to ensure equitable treatment of all claimants wheresoever domiciled ; (b) co-operation for mutual financial assistanco where funds are proved to* be inadequate to meet local claims with necessary'safeguards against un-'" due wastage; (o) mutual understanding as to basis of responsibility with regard to. districts. , ■ (3) Mutual -understanding as to rendering first aid at ports of disembarkation, . while in hospitals, or elsewhere, any assistanco thus given to be recoverable from districts which are entitled to bear -tlio responsibility, to this end associations might reasonably placo f.uilds in the hands of the associations at ports of disembarkation. After a lengthy discussion, the proposals were adopted.
SOUTH CANTERBURY'S EFFORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Timaru, September 12. At a large meeting of the contributors to the Sick and Wounded and Dependents' Fuiid, .-representing South Canterbury, it was announced that the .£35,000 which had been named <is South' Canterbury's minimum quota, had been obtained within eight weeks, entirely by voluntary sub-' scriptions, in sums from ,£IOOO onwards. Tho average per subscriber was .£Ol. One hundred aiul twelve 'subscribers of £100 and over provided ,£22,000, and those from. .£5 to ,£IOO over ,£BOOO. The sums below . totalled less than .£2OO. . - The subscribers agreed to form themselves into « legally constituted society to assist in relieving sick and wohhtl-Ed soldiers and their .dependents, and favoured joining a federation or kindred societies, subject to-the local control of the fund. Delegates wero appointed to! attend the Wellington conference on September 15.
