' LOCAL AND GENERAL Aii English Mail, via Suez, and an Australian mail, will arrive at Wellington by tho Huddarfc-Parkor steamer Olimaroa from Sydney at 9 a.m. today. On Thursday next mails for the' Uiiited States and Continent of Europo will closo at Wellington at 1 p.m., and not' 3 p.m. ae usual. Tho San Francisco mail steamers will leave Wellington at 3 p.m. in future, and not 5 p.m. as originally scheduled. / At Lyttelton on Saturday a fireman on tlio Maori was given notice that he would bo discharged. Certain niombers of the crew of .the vessel objected, and it looked , as if the ferry steamer would bo held up. After a. conference with those in authority the notice was withdrawn, and the vessel arrired -in port ns usual yesterday morhing. The Order,s-in-Council, prohibiting the export of butter and potatoes from .New Zealand, were revoked by a Gazette jwctraordinary, which was puolished on Saturday. The Tramway Band rendered an enjoyable programme at Newtown J. ark yesterday afternoon.
