LAWN TENNIS
PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION. The annual report of Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association shows that the association has had a very successful year financially. The subscriptions from clubs show a slight falling oil: compared with last year, due mainly to the shriuk'ago in membership owing to tlio war. The annual match with Canterbury resulted in a loss of £16 19s. 6cl. In accordance with a resolution passed at last annual mooting) the levies received from clubs have been kept in a separate account, and the balance now standing to credit of this account is £151 ,Gs. 2d. Dunne the, year tho IVew Zealand Association decided to make a. donation to tho Dominion Relief Fund, and tho association contributed its quota, amounting to £9. The _large_ number of players who have enlisted in the New Zealand Forces will seriously affect many clubs during tho coming season, and the income_ of the association will bo correspondingly reduced. During the season tennis generally sustained a great loss in the death of Mr. Anthony P. Wilding, ai former ohlampion of New' Zealand, aad on.e of the world's foremost players of recent years. Tho Now Zealand Association decided to take up the matter of providing a suitable memorial to the late Mr. Wilding, and the committee commends to tho notice of clubs the circular which the New Zealand Association has issued regarding the matter. The committee mentions that the Wellington City Council decided during the past season to utilise tlio courts at Da.v's Bay as municipal tennis courts, a/nd those weici officially opened oil November 21. The opening of these courts lias to some extent done away with the urgent necessity, for obtaining association'courts.
