A .NEW. DESIGN SUGGESTED. Speaking on the Railway Estimates in Parliament last night two members mentioned that they had not yet received their Parliamentary railway passes—the neat enamel and gold badge Which members, usually hang from their watchchains'. Instead, they had to use cardboard passes. Replying to this complaint, the Minister of Rail° ways (theVHon. W. H. Herries) said that if the' hon. members could suggest any way. by which 'he could extract the passes from thoso Into mombers wlio had been uufortunate enough to go down from the Parliamentary sphere, he would be pleased to hand i/liem on. "I am now considering in connection with the National Cabinet," ho concluded, "whether I 'should not have & new pass issued to commemorate the event. I thought I would wait a week or go to see if the National Cabinet was- not altogether stillborn. (Laughter.) I think it is quite safo now, so I think I will be able to do something in that direction." Mr. W. H. Field (Otaki) said that ho was pleased to hoar the Minister was considering a new pass. They had had good Maori emblems in the past on their passes, and ho suggested that the "pouria," tho ring which ' t'he Maoris placed round the log of the tame kaka, might be used as the emblem. Sir. Masssoy: What about, the fern leaf? Mr. Field: No, not tho fern leaf. It is a hideous thing, and not at' all attractive.
