Private Thomas M'Kain, who died on July 23 from wounds received at the Dardanelles, was tho fourth sou of Mr. D. M'Kain,. of Levin, and formerlv or Lower Hutt. Private M'Kain was well known in -t-h_6 Hutt district, but at the timo of enlisthig for service with tho main body lie was at: Grcymouth, having been on the West Coast for about sis_ years. He was 26 years of age,' and was ono of four brothers who went to the Dardanelles. • About three weeks after tuo first landing he was wounded but recovered and returned to tho front. Concerning his second wound, the matron at Floriana Military Hospital, Malta, wroto:—"Ho arrived at Malta with a nasty wound on his ankle. The wound .was very dirty, a great deal of mud a-nd gravol having nvidently been driven in at tho timo of his receiving- tho wound. Ho developed lockjaw the day ho arrived, and, in spite of all that cojild be'dono for him, passed away a few days later. ?. . it will always bo an honour to your fsmil.v that your son lias dono his littlo bit towards bringing about peace;" A notice to sheep farmers and othors is I6SUB "°wner,"- bos^J
