GALLIPOLI HEROES

The oitizens of Wellington will have an opportunity of giving a welcome this afternoon to the sick •and wounded soldiers from the Dardanelles. The welcome is sure to be a whole-hearted and enthusiastic one als befits the home-coming of tho gallant men who have been fighting our battles on the battered and blood-stained hills and valleys of Gallipoli. We who have stayed behind owe these men a debt of gratitude which can never bo fully repaid, but wo can at least show them that we aa'e not unmindful of the great services they have rendered to New Zealand and to the Empire. Tho whole world is ringing with the praises of, the soldiers who are fighting so gallantly in the facc of tremendous difficulties against the German-led armies of the Sultan, and every New Zealander is proud of tho fact that our own men hive done deeds worthy to rank with the most brilliant episodes in the annals of the British Army. Our hearts havo been moved again and aga-in by the thrilling stories of the Dardanelles campaign. ' The courage and endurance, the good comradeship, the unfailing cheerfulness, and the high sense of duty of our citizen soldiers has filled us with, admiration and wonder. How magnificently they have played the game! With mingled pride and sympathy the people of Wellington will greet the inen who are coming back to us to-day. It is not for them to take part in the final overthrow of the enemy in the theatre of war to which they were sent, but they have tho satisfaction of knowing that they have helped to prepare the way for final victory.
