KAH.OKI ROOK LIGHT, Notice is gazetted to the effect that the lighthouse which is being erected on Karon Eock in Oook Strait is now nearly completed, and that it is expected that the light will be exhibited on or about Wednesday, October 20. A not-ico giving the date definitely will, however, bo issued later. The light will be an "ummtclicd" acetone acetylene "flash" light of 2790 caiiale power, and will be exhibited at a height of 65ft. above tho sea, and should be visible at a distance of fourteen miles. It will Flow a flash of i second l , with an eclipse of 3£ seconds. After having undergone an . extensive overhaul at Melbourne tho Union Company's Loongana will shortly re-enter the Melbourne-Launceston service. , The Government steamer Dinomoa finished her work at Puysegur Point light on Wednesday, and went on to West Coast Sounds and Westport. Thei Union Company's Manuka will not arrive at Wellington from Lytt-olton till early this aftornoon. She will be dispatched for Sydney direct and Hobart at 5 p.m. Two oversea steamers will arrive at Wellington to-day. They are the Hurunui, from Liverpool, and tho Whaiatane, from Montreal. Telegraphic - advice has been received by the local office of the Union Company stating that the Navua left Suva for Auckland direct at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. She has 1320 casos of bananas on board for transhipment to Wellington. About 800 tons of cargo will bo landed from !the Mokoia at Wellington before tho vessel'.loaves this port at noon on 'Saturday for .Hobart and Melbourne. Cargo destined for southern ports will be taken in by the Union steamer Corinna at Wellington, to-day. Due in port early this morning from the north, tlio Tarawera will land 230 tons of cargo bofore proceeding on to Lyttclton and Dumedin this afternoon. An endeavour will be made to dispatch the Te Auau from Wellington at 3 p.m. to-day for New Plymouth and West Coast ports. '
At 10 p.m. yesterday tho Now ZeaJand Shipping Company's Otaki was expected to leave Napier for Gisborno to continue Homeward Joading. Auckland will be tho vessel's next port of call, and she will fill up there for London. For the purpose of picking up a load of cargo for Akaroa, the coastal steamer Cygnet arrived at Wellington from Kaikoura last evening. She will eail for her do-t.inalioti to-day. Waitara, cargo will be taken in by the Tainui at Wellington to-day. On account of the arrival of tho wounded soldiers by tho Tahiti to-morrow, tho departure of the Nikau from Wellington for Nelson and Motoeka. has been postponed till 5 p.m. The Muritai, which left New Yo-rk on August 31 for Wellington, Tie Panama Oano.l and Auckland, is due hero about October 9. - ' Tho 0. and D. liner Wlakarua is expected to get away from Wellington, for Newcastle to-morrow. ' After picking up cargo at Australian ports, the vessel will proceed on to London. Having completed her New Zealand loading programme, the Nimry left Gisborne for Ilriebane on Wednesday night. She will fill up in Australia for Homo. As the Nikau will -undergo repairs at Nelson on Monday and Tuesday of next week, she will not leave Wellington as usual on Tuesday, September 14. It js expected that the vessel will resume running from hero on September 16. The Huddart-Parker steamer Kiverina will arrive at Wellington from Xhinedin and Lyttclton this morning. Departure will be taken for Auokland direct this afternoon, and she will leave the latter port for Sydney om Monday next. ; : Mr. M. W.
