FINANCE MINISTER DEFENDS HIS PROPOSALS NO CHANGES TO-BE MADE END OF THE FINANCIAL DEBATE* Tho Legislative Council met at 2,30 pan. The Hon. W. BEEHAN gave noticd to ask the Leader of ttio CJouncil, whether the Government will take into consideration the advisability of bringing in. a Bill this session having for its object tho subvention of friendly societies in view of the fact that, ac-> cording to the report of the Registrar of Friendly; Societies, the societies for the first timo have shown a decrease in membership? [In a note Mr. Beehan pointed out! that in -1911 the rato of increase was 3.67 per cent., in 1912 the rate of increase was 2.20 per cent., in 1913 the rate of increase was 0.15 per cent., in 1914 the decrease shown is 0.76 pea cent.] . There was' no business ready, an<J the Council rose till 2.35 p.m. to-day.
