MILITARY PROMOTIONS
N.Z. STAFF CORPS. Six members of the New Zealand Staff CoTps have been promoted as follow ■To be Lieutenant-Colonels: Major J. G. Hughes (temporary LieutenantColonel), D.5.0.; Major T. W. M'Donald. • ■ To be Majors: Captain S. G. Sandle, Captain R. B. Smythe, Captain S. A. Grant (temporary Major), Captain J. H. Whyte. The promotions take effect as from January 1,1915. Lieutenant-Colonel Hughes,' who left in October last as Assistant Military Secretary, Main Body, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, ha 6 sir.ee been given command of the Canterbury Battalion. , . Lieutenant-Colonel M'Donald, -who left, as o'fficer commanding' the Otago Battalion, was subsequently invalided to New Zealand, and is now General Staff Officer, Otago District. Major Grant, who left as Staff Officer, 4th Reinforcements, was killed in the battle at Anzao, Gallipoli Peninsula, on August 11: Major J. H. Whyte is second in cpmI rrand of the Wellington Mounted Rifles Regiment at the front.
