ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL
THE WATER SUPPLY SCHEME. A special meeting of the . Onslow Borough Council was held last night. There wore'present: The Mayor (Mr. C. 0. Cramp), and Councillors J. C. Gardner, A. W. C. Palmer, L. A. Brownie, C. Bowdcn, J. M. Dale, A. E. Budd, W. Appleton, and J. G. Smith. After some .disoussioii on tho application for, licenses to store kerosene, Councilor Dale moved, and Councillor Appleton seconded: "That a license be granted to Mr Hall, and a license to Mr. Bowden if he stores on the Pickering Street frontage." The motion was carried, Councillor Smith and the Mayor dissenting. . The matter of the proposed water supply was then dealt with. In introducing the report tlio Mayor remarked that if "Onslow were going to advance it should set 'about and have a proper water scheme. In his report Mr. Fulton said that taking the population of the borough to be upwards of 2000, he assumed it .would be necessary to provide for 3000 persons ill a few years 1 time. Councillors dissented at the calculation that only' 3000 people would have to be provided for, the general opinion being that 5000 people should be estimated"for. A motion was carried to this effect. • . The engineer's estimate of the cost of the proposed scheme was £25,200. Tlio report proposed tliat at present a consumption of 25 gallons per head daily ho provided for.. Sevoral councillors were of the opinion that this was not sufficient, but a motion to this effect was lo3t. , . Furthor discussion oil the scheme was postponed.until a.meeting to he lield in a fortnight's time..
