M'CONOCHY DEFEATS CKOSSAN. An interesting' billiard.match was played between C. M'Conoohy, New. Zealand champion, and A. Crossan, of Wellington, at Bird and Jenson's splendidlvappointed new Empire Saloon 1 ' in Manners Street yesterday: afternoon and. evening. It wits a gamo of 1500 up, M'Conochy conceding his opponent 600 points. During theevening session he ran out oh a : small unfinished break, beating Crossan bv 313 points. About 400 people witnessed the concluding stages of the gamo, and they were rewarded with some ! oxcellent play by . the young Now Zealand champion. His biggest break was 257, 255 of which were made oft' the red. On one occasion M'Conochj;., made, a. break ,ot.lsGofL.tl]o white, while he also ran up a scoro of 64 by pretty all-round play. • At the conclusion of.tho game M Conochy stated that the table was one of the best he had played on ih"'New Zealand. Crossan's biggest breaks were:—2o, 21, 25, 32, 28, 25, 32, and 26. M'Conochy's best scores were:—2B, 145, 144, 24, 43, 118, 27, 144, 26, 30, 51, 64, 10, 33, 20, 257, .and 23., .
