JOFFRE WAITING TO STRIKE
WESTERN COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF WILL' NOT BE HURRIED. ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.) „ ~ T , London, September G. \\ ntmg in the 'Preparazione, an Italian military organ, Colonel Barome, who recently visited General Joftre, says: "Somo people, including General Jofh'c, think that.in the present circumstances a general offensive on the estcru front can bo delayed without inconvenience, :n order that, once begun lie may carry it out thoroughly and uninterruptedly. There is an impatient minority, including prominent polticiaus, which believes, that it would be better for the offensive if it were started immediately." Colonel Baromc thinks General Joffre is right. Germany, by pushing the advance in Russia, is marching to certain disaster, and it is far bettor for the Allies in the West to wait the result of this than strike now. From this aspect tho French and British commanders regard the situation, and tho Russian General Staff is probably of tho same opinion. General Joffre is not asleep, and deserves entire confidence. - ' FRENCH AIR-RAID IN ALSACE-LORRAINE. • .. . „ v • Paris, September 6.
