John' Walling, was fined £1, tvith costs 7b., for cruelly ill-treating a horse at Day's Bay on August 23 last! Constable Simpson said in his evidence that ho saw defendant hitting his horso with, the butt of his whip. He was carting 'shingle at the, time..... Walling wasj otherwise a deoent-'mhri,'. who 'as a; rule' treated his horses well., Robert Ross was charged with tho theft on' July 28 of an Irish setter pup/ valued at-£l9 10s., the "property of WiV ham Henry Trengrove. ' The case was adjourned to September 10. On the application of Mr. T. M. Wilford, Andrew Julius Finlay was further remanded for a. week on. three serious charges. Bail was allowed as before. For drunkenness , John Prys© was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, Daniel M'Farlane was fined £2 or seven days' imprisonment, and Charles Ingram and James Baxter each fined.£l or three days' imprisonment/ Four first-offendiug inebriates were dealt With. MAINTENANCE AND SEPARATION ■ William Henry Swain was ordered to pay- ss. a, week towards the maintenance of his mother and £2 2s. Costs. John. Bonasick was ordered to pay •10s. a week towards tho maintenance of his wife., . following were dealt with as mentioned for disobeying maintenance orders James Jamieson, twelve .days' unphsonment, warrant to be suspended °>} payment of 7s. 6d. per week; Frank Alfred Schultz, three months' imprisonmont or payment of 20s. weekly; William A-.: S. Donald three days' imprisonment or payment of 7s. 6d. weekly. Archibald Cochrane was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for .disobej'' nig .a maintenance order in respect to his wife, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of 275. 6d. a week. The a " ea '' 3 were reduced by consent from £50 to £10. Mr. P.; W. Jackson appeared for complainant, and Mr. F, 0 Leary for defendant. t) An application was made by Emma lllmgworth against her; husband, Richard Illmgworth .for separation, ■ maintenance, and guardianship orders. Mr. i.. w. Jackson appeared for complainant, and Mr. 6. Samuel, of Wanganui, for defendant., The case was adjourned to Wanganui, where it originated, and further evidence will be taken there.
