By the merest chance 1 the liner floated after the attack, and there was happily no loss of life beyond an odd- death here an'd there from shock or injury. The Russian crisis in the East has undergone no material change; the Russian armies are withdrawing hero, fighting ther6, and occasionally inflicting severe losses; some significance is attached, to the report that a Rus- ■ , sian appeal to-the Allies for greato r efforts in Belgium' and the Dardanelles should havo passed the Russian consoi; and found its way. into the reputable/columns of'tne "Giornale d' Italia" janother report hints at an/Austro-German invasion of Southern Russia, with Qdessa and.
