POLITICAL AFFAIRS
, THE END OF THE SESSION? BUDGET TAXING PROPOSALS All forecasts for an early end to the session have been made to.look ridiculous during tho past two weeks. When tho National Government was formed it fras tho opinion of very'many members, probably a. majority of the members in tho House, that the session would not last more than four weeks after Parliament reassembled. Indeed, there wero Bome so sanguine that they ventured the opinion that tho Houso would put through all the business in three weeks. It is more than two weeks already sinco Parliament reassembled, and tlio Financial Debate is not yet over.' It will probably ocoupy the whole of this week, and then the House has to put through tho taxing Bills. It now seems evident that Parliament will not disperse until eomo time in':' October. The Public Works Statement will probably como down in about, a fortnight, by " which time it is hoped that tho-general estimates may be passed.
