SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Marriage at Kilbirnie. The marriage of Miss Edna _ Sadie Moys, second daughter of Captain and Mrs. A. Slater 'Moys, of Hataitai, to Mr. Frederick George Major, of Wellington, took place at All Saints' Church, Kilbirnio, on Wednesday afternoon,' tlio Rev. H. Sykes officiating. The brido, who was given away by Mr. S. Barclay, of Eketahuna, wore a dress of ivory crepe de cliine, with. « swathed belt of pale pink crepe do chine, and tiny ■pink rosebuds. She woto a veil and orange blossoms, and carried a shower ' bouquet. Tlio bridesmaids were Miss It. Major, sister of tho bridegroom, ■ and Misses Delza and Joan Chauf-Small, nieces of the bridegroom. Miss Major wore a dress of white crepo do . chine, and a white picture hat, with pink, velvet ribbon. . Her bouquet was of pink anemones and asparagus. The tiny maids wore dainty frocks of white voile and Indian lace, with net caps trimmed with ismall rosebuds and pink ribbons, Miss Joan Chant carrying a white satin cushion, with the initials of the bride, which, on leaving churoh, was carried to show the com- ■ bined initials of bride and bridegroom. After- tho ceremony a reception was hold at the residence of tho bride's parents, Matai Road, Hataitai. Mr. and Mrs..— Major left for Sydney by the Moeraki, where the honoymoon is being spent, Mrs. Major wearing a smart costtimd of mole cloth, and a small French sailor hat, with blue velvet and rosebuds. . British and Belgian Relief Fund. The monthly meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for tho Health of Women and Children was held in the society's rooms on Thursday, There were present: Mesdames Algar Williams (in the chair), M'Vicar,,'M'Lean, Ponsonby, W. Luke, Corrigan, Richardson, Gr. Reid, "Misses Inglis, Barnett, and Kirkcaldie. Apologies were received from Mesdames fitchett. Ward, J. Tripe, S. Kirkcaldie, and Miss Cable. The nurses reported that during tho . ]ast' month the " number of new. cases were 55, cases visited in homes 432, visits to rooms 310.. From the Lower,. Hutt and Petoiie branches ..there .were 10 new cases, 19. visits paid to homes, arid 65 visits to the rooms. The Lower Hutt and Petone now liavo a Plunket . nurse of'their own, Noirso Baker 'having taken' Tip her duties there last j week,. An interesting.letter was,read froni.a lady living in the back-blocks, who has sa.ved the life of a very delicate baby entirely through, > studying ■ the society's book "The Feeding and Care of the Baby," and'by_ writing tq the nurse for further directions. Miss Barnett reported that the Sewing Committee met at Mrs. Hosking's house on August 3, and a great deal of work was done. .The next sewing..meeting will, also be held at Mrs. Hosking's house, 20 Hobson Street, on Tuesday, September 7;. Auckland Women's National Reserve. A nursing division in connection with the Auckland 'branch of the Women's National Reserve has recently been formed in accordance with the regulations of the St.' John Ambulance Brigade. It has also been decided at a recent meeting held in Auckland to establish 9, fully-equipped . hospital training ward, in order to give members, who have completed tlieir ambulance training and! passed examinations, practical experience in the routine and the management of a hospital ward. Negotiations to seoure a suitable room are in progress, and members have'undertaken to raise the funds necessary for the provision of equipment. An appeal is 'being made to the men's branches to subscribe' one shilling per member. The equipment of the ward will be supervised b.y Dr. Kcnnctli Mackenzie and Mr. 0. J. Tunks, superintendent of the St. John Ambulance Association, and it is intended that it- shall be complete in - every detail, so tliat the ward may bo handed over to the military authorities, should occasion arise. Cooking classes for members of the branch have been arranged, and special attention will be given to sick room and institutional cookery, while it is hoped to arrange later demonstrations in outdoor and camp cookery. A record has been taken..of each member's qualifications for grading purposes, with a statement as to what duties slie is prepared to undertake in emergency. , Soldiers' Room Fund. The lion. treasurer of the Soldiers' Boom Fund acknowledges the following donations and subscriptions: Mrs. Hamilton Gilmer, sen., £5. Monthly subscriptions: Khandallah. hostesses, £2; Sirs. S. Mrs. D, Burke, of Ha'mna, assisted by her daughter, was hostess at . a Red Cross tea on Wednesday given in aid of tho wounded' soldiers. Although heavy rain fell, a number of ladies and several gentlemen were present. Tea was. served in the diningroom, which was tastefully decorated witli daffodils and silver birch,- Mrs. S. Hobbs won the competition held during the afternoon. The hostess next Wednesday will be Mrs. J. B. Carruthers, and . each, guest is requested to bring a riddle.

Mr. and Mrs. R. Barker, Mr. H, AV. Barker, and the Misses Barker, of Gisborne, leave Auckland by the Niagara 011 Tuesday for England. Mr. H. W. Barker intends offering his services to the War Office on. arrival there.
'Tivo ladies (have been placed on; the' executive of 'the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Belief Association, in place of Messrs. Neville Newcomb and A. N. Sneddon, who tad resigned owing to pressure of other war work. These ladies are the Mayoress (Mrs. Gunson) -and Mrs. "VV. H. Parkes. It will be re,membered that, several protests were ii,ado owing to the fact i that women were not represented' upon the executive.'
Tho Public Service to hold another patriotic dance in tlie Railway Social Rail, Waterloo Quay, on September 11, in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fnnd.
At a meeting of the' St. James's Church Ladies' Guild_ (Lower Hutt) it was unanimously decided to amalgamate 'with'other efforts in Lower Hiitt for. the purposo of'purchasing and making leather jackets for the soldiers. A committee, • consisting of Mesdames Watson, Oameron, Strauchon, Miss' Humphries, and ! Mjss Stuart-Forbes (secretary an dtreaatirer), was appointed to act in conjunction with ths remainder of the guild in distributing and making; the jackets. As the result of a conference between tlie Mayor's Ladies' Committee and' the above ladies, arrangements were made to obtain immediately as many skins as possible, and to commence operations to-day. Hutt ladies who are willing to assist may, obtain one or niore of the sannents (when ready) from any member of the committee. •
