A capital description of the above tourist , tract, but little known'at ■ present, lias been presented to Parliament under, tho heading, "Appendix V," an extract from the animal-report of the survey operations for 191-1-15 (Department of - Landsi and Survey). It is written by Mr. H. E. Gmllestone, District surveyor. , It is not. only, descriptive: of'' the splendid sights to be seen, but goes into -.details of "how to get there, what to take with yo.u, and what to wear." An excellent locality 'plan aeconijianies the report, so. that the .merest tyro could make the trip. Some nine fine photographs ■ are also included, 60 that capital value is giveii for the amount charged. These pictures show "A Mountain Tarn," of which there are quite a number on the higher ranges. Another, "The Edge of Bush below. Mount Alpha," and a third is .from. Alpha looking at Mt. Hector. This mountain. gives the tourist one of the best views to be seen. Prom here Mount Egmont's snow-capped top is seen in all its glory. The sea coast for miles is in. view, with Otaki right at the foot of the mountain. Looking south there is Cook Strait separating us from the South; Island, with the Ivaikouras looming up coispic-uously on that island. An early ■ start, is to be made to clear the horse ..track ot fallen trees and debris, eo that excursionists, can make an early start in the coming season;- -The track .is sa. arranged that a party can have a good tramp to' Reeves, Tauherinikau Valley; or to Alpha,- and return to Greytown, without making the major trip through to Otaki. All lovers of New Zealand scenery, in its virgin state, are urged to get the booklet, and. make the only good mountain trip withiii 50 iailes of .'Wellington. .
