BRANDING WHEY BUTTER

■ DISTINGUISHING MARK, PROBABLE. A question, regarding the . branding of: whey butter, was asked in, Parliament yesterday by Mr. J. T. M. Hornsby (Wairarapa).. He said that the statement had gone through the country that a-new brand would be insisted on for such ;butter, proclaiming that, it. was whey-' butter. A large' number of factories were manufacturing such.butter,. and were turning out an excellent article.' -Ihey would be'greatly prejudiced if the .mark was to'go upon it that it wasnvhev butter.' " The Minister .of Agriculturo (the Hon. W. D? S. Mac Donald) said that there had been some negotiations in connection with'the matter. There was .-no question that whey butter had been exported from New Zealand to the London market, and it had not been satisfactory to the other factory butter in this country. It had prejudiced-the sale of New Zealand butter to a certain extent. In any case the'matter, was under consideration, but nothing definite had been. done. They, had under, consideration, the advisability.-of. : putting a, definite brand upon whey Gutter. Mr. Hornsby: Would you hear representatives : of- the factories before you reply definitely?' -Mr.-MacDonald: We aTe very pleased to. get any "information at all.-
