ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
—— . MOTOR ACCIDENT OAR OVERTURNED. IN- GHUZNEE STREEfr. 'A oollision between' two motor-cars in Upper Ghuznee Street on Saturday afternoon resulted in one of the vehicles being capsized.' The occupants, Mr. and Mrs. 0. H. Young and Mrs. Bernard Pago were: at first thought to be seriously injured, but at latest reports are progressing favourably. The second car, which was driven by Mr. Trengrove, and contained as passengers Mr. H. Davidson, of .the Central Hotel, Auckland,- and Mr.; and Mrs. Victor Edgar, of Oriental. Bay,, escaped; practically uninjured. SUDDEN DEATHS. At 7 a.m.-on,Saturday George, Walter Rolfe, residing at No. 10 Sage's Lane, discovered his wife dead in bed. The two had been sleeping in separate rooms, as was their custom,_ and at 2 a.m. he had gone into his wife's Toom, as she was complaining of pains, and had given her a drink of water. He then went back to his own. room. At 7 o'clock he went in again, and found her dead. She had been' subject to fits, and had suffered from dropsy, which the husband thought was the cause of her death. The body was removed to the morgue, and an inquest will be held there by Mr. Cooper, S.M., probably, tomorrow afternoon. Thomas Cahill, the infant son; of Mrs, Clara Cahill, of 109 Thorndon Quay, died in his .perambulator at jibout 4.40 p.m. on Saturday. It? mother was engaged in cleaning out the offices of the Phoenix Fire Office, and noticing, after her work, that the child was looking very ill, took it at once to Dr. M'Cahon, who stated that life had been extinct for about twenty minutes. The child tad been very delicate'from its birth. An inquest will be held. KNOCKED OVER. BY % TRAMCAR. 'A man named Ernest James Scells, residing at No. 261 Upper Willis Street, was knocked down by Car No. 16 (Motorman F. C. Whitaod) at about 7.50 p.m. on Saturday, opposite Salek's pharmacy, in Willis Street. There was a big crowd about at the time,- and the gong was kept-going the whole time, As soon as he .saw that Scells was".likely to be struck the motorman pulled up his car with all brakes, but was too late to prevent the man being knocked, over. Scells's injuries, which were attended to by Mr. Salek, consisted of a bruised hip, a few abrasions, and a badly bruised hand. After treatment he was able to walk home.
