CANADA'S WHEAT CROP
—-■ ' V'.. , : set-back; in alberta'. Up till recently very favourable reports were received . about the wheat crop in Cansfda which is really, harvested this month. From letters received in (Wellington by the last mail it would ■appear .that the prospects aro not so good as. anticipated. vAlbeii ; County is a famous wheat area in the north-west of Canada, and there the promise is a poor one. Writing from Calgary on | July 30 one correspondent says:— "Since ive wrote you .early in June qur icrop has bad a serious set-back, and it now looks as though; the harvest .■would not be as , satisfactory as was then anticipated. .We have been experiencing continuous rains, : .and the crop' is now at least three weeks late, and,the probabilities of the bulk of the rsamo maturing before frost is rather doubtful.. In viow of this, and the fact ■!"tha.t the crop, conditions throughout the United. States are , very nnsatisfastory !we are inclined • (XT believe that Mgher prices for milling wheat are to bs anticipated." At least one flour merchant in Wellington has made arrangements "for the importation of Canadian flour for .the nest three months.
