♦ — REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES WAIEARAPA'. 24; AVELLINGTON. 11. (By Teleeraph.—Press Association.) Carterton, August 26. The Rugby match was played to-day in fine but breezy weather. In tho first spell AA'airarapa had the wind in their favour, but -Wellington staved off strenuous at; tacks, accepting four forces._ The spell ended, AA'ollinston, 8; AVairarapa, ,6. In tho second spell, against the wind, AVairarapa rapidly ran up 13 more points, befol'e AVellinctau scored again, when they goaled a free kick. Waira'rapa replied with another try which M'Kenzio converted. M'Carlie scored for AA'cllington, Corson converting, and they added another try per Sullivan, ami Corson kicked a goal from a< free kick. AVairarapa scored five tries, two beiug converted, one by M'Kenzia and ono by Masson. Masson also kicked a goal from a free kick. AA 7 airarapa scorers were: Tunioliffe, Masson, Desmond, and Abbott (2). Tho game ended with play in AA'ellington territory and score: AVairarapa, 24; AA'ellington, 11. AA'ellington showed tho best football, but the AVairarapa. defence and their swift forwards nullified the efforts of the town men. : The referee was Mr. A. E. Bootli.
