A cablegram has heen received by the local office .of the A. and A.-Line stating that their chartered steamer Batsford, which is' en route from New York to Wellington,, left Colon (Panama; Canal)'on August 2 for' Auckland. The vessel is. expected to imve at Wellington on or about September 6. ACTER A STRF;NTJQUS CAREER. Although.she has stood the wear and tear of. many seas" for the past 58 years, the coal hulk Jubilee, ■at one tame a notable sailer, appears to be still in a thoroughly sound condition. She is at present undergoing an extensive overhaul at the Fipitea Wharf, and last week sho was "bored" in twenty-six places on both sides. The timbers were found to be in -almost perfect - condition. The Jubilee's career is.an interesting one.- Built of the green lieai-t of ripe oak at Cumberland ia 1857, she did much service, het principal work being.'as a trader ia Chinese waters. Later she.eame down to Australia and Ne-.v Zealand. She was averttually acquired by .the Gear Meat Company, being engaged in. bringing frozen meat' from Petonc to the wharves for. transhipment.
