TROOPS FOR TRENTHAM

DRAFTING IN THE EIGHTH. Troops from all over New Zealand are being steadily drafted into Trentham to make up the Eighth Reinforcements. Palmerston yesterday sent along 274 men, Hawera sent 384, Hamilton 180, Canterbury 227 (part only), Napier 370, and from Masterton came 207. Eighty men arrived last night from the Picton and Nelson districts, and more will reach Wellington from other districts to-day as follow: —Canterbury, 80; Dunedin, 440; Auckland, 110; and Westport, 63. Another draft from the Canterbury districts, numbering 267, will arrive on Thursday morning, while another, big detachment is expected from Auckland today. The Eighth Reinforcements will, when fully made up, number about 3500.

The Bth Reinforcements left for 'tho south to-day, the departure being witnessed by thousands, who lined Queen Street. One batch went at midday and a second lot to-night. Eltham, August 24. Forty-five men left for Trent-ham last night. They were farewelled at the railway station by two thousand people, amidst a scene' of great enthusiasm! Mastertoiv August 24. Two hundred and five troops for Trcntham were given an enthusiastic send-off by a laree concourse'of people this morning. They were played up to the station by a band and escorted by a guard of honour. | Palmerston North, August 24. | Fifty-three men of the Bth Reinforcements, an exceptionally fine body of men, were farewelled publioly this morning at a hearty send-off on their way.to Trentham. Wanganul, 'August 24. ■The Wanganui quota for the Eighth Reinforcements was given an enthusiastic send-off this morning by a crowd estimated between 4000 and 5000, when leaving for Wellington. The men passed a resolution of the public's interest, and pledging themselves to 'do all possible' to uphold the honour of the town at the cams and at the front. Dunedin, August 24. The Otago and Southland men for the Bth. Reinforcements left Dunedin by special train to-da.y. They were, accorded a hearty send-off prior to departure. The Dunedin district sent--193 men, Invercargill 90, Milton 55, and Oamaru 95.
