Gazette" states that the Kaiser telegraphed as follows to the Imperial Chancellor (Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg): "Thanks to God's assistance and the tried leadership of. General von Beseler and his heroic troops, also the excellent Austro-German siege artillery, ,the strongest 'and most modern Russian fortress, Novo-Georg-ievsk, is in our ha-nds. It was one of the finest feats of arms." v • Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg replied: "Wo are full of gratitude to God. The entire people rejoice in tho army's deeds." . . Thousands sang triumphal songs, and 1 "Now Thank We all Our God,";before Herr Bethmann-Hollweg's palace. A DISH FOR THE REICHSTAG. HIGHLY-COLOURED PICTURE OP THE GERMANS' PROGRESS. At'the opening of the Reichstag, the President stated :—"ln the west we maintain our gains, in the, Dardanelles and on tlie Italian frontier attacks have been shattered by the bravery of our troops, whilo our eastern successfes are bordering on tlho fabulous." ■ The Chancellor said: "All tho French attempts to break our western front have failed. Italy lias'been brilliantly repulsed, the. Turks at the Dardanelles are standing unflinchingly, and we ha.ve almost freed Galicia, Poland, Lithuania, and Courland'from the Russians." "SHAME AND VAIN WORDS." HUN CHANCELLOR APOSTROPHISED. Paris, August 22. M. Gabriel Hanotaux, . ex-Foreign Minister, in an article in the "Figaro," thus apostrophises Herr BethmannHollweg, the German Chancellor: "You exude snamo and utter vain words. The Reichstag, in voting' credits, authorises you to multiply this new form of finance, which al6o consists of scraps of paper. Germany demands peace in the near future, but you dp -not daro- announce the horrible destiny to whicli your peace ' would condemn the world."
