LIEUT. J. H. 'ALLEN. s The Hon. J. Allen lias received, from General Hunter Weston a letter referring to tlie deat!li of .his son, Lieut; J. H. Allen. • Following is an extract from the letter':—"l should like to express to you' what, a great loss we have suffered- in the death of your son, who Was a most promising officer. From all accounts I havo received he handled his men with great skill and fought most gallantly. Will you pleaso accept my sincere sympathy in your sad loss." Following Was the text of a cablegram received by Mr. Allen from General Hunter Weston shortly after Lieut. Allen was killed:—"Lieut. J. H. Allen, 13lh Battalion Worcester Regiment, and attached to the Essex Regiment, joined the.2!)th Division out here on May 26, and took' part in all tho fighting with the 29th Division, which occurred South of. Krithia, including the successful battle of June 4, when three lines'of Turkish trenches were captured with .great loss to the enemy. Throughout all the,fighting Lieut Allen led his platoon with great gallantry. On Juiie 6 the, Turks made heavy coun-ter-attacks, but were repulsed after severe fighting. Lieut.
