"he Soldiers' Room. Tho attractions offered by the Soldiers' Room in Sydney Street aro becoming more and more appreciated as time goes on. To the soldier oil leavo from Trentham there are frequently odd moments in town in which there is nothing particular to do, and where can be found so comfortable a place in which to enjoy a quiet game of billiards, cards, or to read, or write letters as in the Soldiers' Room, with its cheery fires, bright surroundings, and the hospitality which is offered by the hostesses, who provide refreshments every evening. For this week the hostesses are as follow:—Last evening (Sunday), Lady Stout; Monday, Mrs. C. Richardson and Mrs. Haywan; Tuesday, Mrs. G. F. Campbell; Wednesday, Mrs. A. do B. Brandon and Mrs. Griffiths; Thursday, Mrs. Clark Johnson and Mrs. Davis; Friday, Mrs, Stevens • and Miss Kennedy; Saturday, Khandallah -ladies.

A Presentation. At tlio conclusion of the concert which was given in the Wellingtons Girls' College on Saturday evening the members of tho staff met in Miss M'Lean's room, where Miss Ward, whose marriage takes place very shortly, was presented by Miss M'Lean, on behalf of herself and Miss Ward's confreres, with a set of silver entree dishes. Warmest wishes for her future happiness were expressed, and much regret at- losing her from the staff. ' Mr. Dawson briefly replied for Miss Ward, _ and thankeil everyone for their kind wbhes and gifts.

A Prize Winner at the Panama Exhibition. News comes from the Panama Pacific Exposition that the grand prize for the finest exhibit in group 18 —"Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco"—in the department of sotiial economy in the educational section of the exhibition has been awarded to tho World's and National Women's Christian Temperance Union exhibit. Group 18 has to do with tho physiological and other effects of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco; statistics of consumption and economic cost, organised efforts for lessening intemperance, and us® of drugs and tobacco. Also legal regulation of trade in liquor, drags, and tobacco, and private'and public management of the liquor trade. The exhibits in competition with that of tne World's and National Women's Christian Temperance Union were installed by the Anti-Saloon League, the Prohibition, Party, the National Temperance Society, tho Now York Hospital for the Insane, and by Japan and Uruguay.

For the Volunteer Nursing Sisterhood. On Saturday evening Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains's tea-rooms presented a brilliant appearance, the occasion being a plain and fancy-dress ball in aid of the Volunteer Nursing Sisterhood, two of the staff Laving joined that self-, denying body. A strong working committee transformed th© room of tables and chairs, into a quarter-deck, gaily decorated with flags of the Allied nations. The floor liad been carefully prepared, and was voted by the enthusiastic dancers as one of the best to be met with anywhere. . A prize was presented _ during the evening to Miss Whitmill for the' best fancy-dress cosfcume (''Rubbles 1 '); and to Miss SmytliBor. .for .the most original, her characterisation being a "Mexican Coon.' Danco nrasi&was played by Mr. Cowley's band, atidSvas excellent.;. The catering was in the capablo hands of Miss Whittish, who with hor staff carried out her duties in her usual efficient manner.

Clrls* College Entertainment. •A_ verv successful entertainment, organised by tho Wellington Girls' College Gleo Club, under the direction of Miss Ward, for tho benefit of tho collego war material and for tho Indian Mission, was hold in the Central Hall of tho colleco on Saturday evening. Tho audience entirely filled the room, and tlio programme, consisting of glees, recitations. vocal and instrumental music, Swedish drill, and dances, was greatly appreciated by those present. The opening number was "Tlio Bohemian Girl," played by the College Orchestra, under the direction of Miss Medley. Some of Miss Beero's very small pupils cave some fancy dances, and Miss Sylvia Udy recited. The College Gleo Club, consisting of about twenty girls, was distinctly good in its performances, and the now very familiar song "Knitting, " performed as a glee, with Miss )Varrl as soloist, was a much-enjoyed item. A picturesque performance was that- given by somo of Mdlle. du Busson's pupils, who sang a French song and lvore tho Breton costume. An exhibition of Swedish drill, excellently performed, was given by junior pupils, under the direction of Miss Smith (games mistress), and-Miss Doris Hume recited in French. Another recitation was bv clever little Miss Hazel Jefferys and the Misses Henry played an instrumental trio. Charming additions to the programme wero tlio old English (lances in costume by some of the college pupils, and further performances wero given by tho Glee Club and tho College Orchestra. The sale of flowers, by Miss Collins, assisted by several of the eirls. also of sweets by Miss Allan and assistants, added to the financial results of the evening.

Military Hospital Cuild. The lion, treasurer of the Citizens'. Military. Hospital Guild acknowledges tho following contributions to the above fund:—Mrs. Townsend, 55.; Mrs. J. The wedding took placo at Rotoiti, Neutral Baj', Sydney, recently of Trooper Gulliver, of the 7th Reinforcements of the First Australian Light Horse, second youngest son of the late Rev. E. H. Gulliver, M.A., to Miss Elizabeth Marguerite Anderson, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Anderson, of Sydney. The late Rev. E. H. Gulliver, father of the bridegroom, was formerly well known in Auckland, where he was for many years on the teaching staff of tiie Auckland College and Grammar School.
