NAVAL BATTLE IN THE BALTIC _ A GERMAN REPORT THREE RUSSIAN~VESSELS SUNK ' By Telegraph—Press Association—Oony right (Rec. August 23, 0.10 a.m.) Amsterdam, August 22. Grand Admiral von Tirpitz (German Naval Secretary) reports that the Baltic naval forces, after several days''minesweeping, penetrated the Gulf of Riga. In outpost engagements, following tlieir entrance, a Russian torpedo-boat of the Emir Bucharski class was destroyed, and other torpedo boats, including the cruiser Norik, and also a largo vessel, wore heavily damaged. • While retreating on the' evening of August 19, in the Monsund Channel, the Russian gunboats Sivoutch and Korietz were rank by artillery fire, after brave fighting. Forty men, including two officers, were severely wounded. They were rescued. Our torpedo boats were damaged by mines. One sank; one ran ashore, and. one was escorted to port. Our loss of life was small. Petrograd, August 22. A communique states that during the fighting, at Riga, the enemy lost two torpedo boats. A British submarine successfully torpedoed a German cruiser.
