WELLINGTON COLLEGE BEATS ST, PATRICK'S A CLOSE GAME The annual Rugby matcli between Wellington College and St. Patrick's College attracted a' good crowd to Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon. Before tlie match, the general idea was that Wellington would win very easily, but the matcfh proved that the teams were remarkably evenly matched, and Wellington were not at all unfortunate in only winning by the small score of eight points against three. Each side scored one try, and Wellington, in addition, landed a couple of goals. A hot pace was maintained throughout the game, and towards the conclusion some of the boys were tiring rapidly. Wel> lington scored in the first spell, Caulton crossing the line. converted, and the Blacks led by 5 to 0. In the second spell Desmond Campion dashed over the Wellington lino and scored for the Bluo and Whites, hut his try was not converted. Wellington, 5; St. Patrick's, 3. There was no change in the score ten minutes from the call of time, and St. Patrick's were putting up a big figflit to wipe off the deficit. Wellington, hbwever. stalled them off, and placed the Blue and Whites . oil the defensive. While defending St. Patrick's were penalised, and Raleigh kicked a beautiful goal. In the little time remaining, St. Patrisk's attacked fiercely and vigorously, but over-ahxiety caused all their openings to be wasted, and the score remained at 8 to 3 in Wellington's fa-, vour when the bell rang. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY PETONE. The final match to decide the junior championship was played on No. 2 ground at the Park, between Petone and Berliampore, and resulted in an easy victory for Petone. In the late' part of tho second spell Petone were running over the Berhampore boys; The final score was: Petone, 19; Berliampore, 3. For the winners Hancock (2), Colos, and Cudby scored tries, and Bennett kicked a penalty goal and oon-vert-ed two tries. Bennett's kicking was exceptionally Rood. Berliamporo's three points came from a penalty goal by Peake. Mr. L. Simpson was referee.-

SENIOR CAMES. ATHLETIC AND UNIVERSITY. The defeat of th© 'Varsity team at the hands of Athletic at the Hutt was not as decisive as was expected. The College backs played a fine spoiling game, and kept the dliampions at bay in good style. It was a fast, open contest throughout and always interesting. Tlio final scores were: Athletio, 9; University, 3. For the winners, Ryan, Cunningham, and MacCarlio scored trios.

PETONE AND ORIENTAL. Very few spectators witnessed the Petone-Oriental contest, at Petone. The local team were minus the assistance of Jim and Eddy R.yan, and throughout the first spell the game was even, neither side scoring. In. the secondhalf; however, Petono livened up, and Anslow scored an unconverted try. Tailored shortly afterwards followed suit,Joe Ryan converting. Petone, B—o. A little later Parker, coming to Anslow's assistance, succeeded in bringing the scaro to 13—0, J. llyan-again converting. A penalty goal was then landed by the local men and the game ended: Petone, 16; Oriental, 0. Mr. J. Baumber was referee.

OTHER MATCHES. In the fourth-class competition Selwyn (9) defeated Hutt (3). For Selwyn tries were scored by Ridgley, Bramley, and Desmond. This win gives Selwyii a 2-point lead in the fourtlh-class championship.
