LIMITS TO GERMAN DISCIPLINE

Such is fSio arrogance of German officers that they attempt to their men oven after they have been taken prisoners. An instance of this occurred recently in France, when a lot of German prisoners, with several officers among the men, were being sent to tho rear.- The men wero very tired and worn out with the strain of incessantfighting, and some of them stumbled and fell, unable to go a.uy further. Immediately several of the German officers burst from their guards and flung themselves on the men with brutal throats. "Get up I Hold yourselves straight I" they cried, and-then followed blows and abuse. But their iron rule no longer held. - Most of tho prisoners did not so much as turn their heads at the voices that two days beforo would have made them tremble with fear. Another instance of iron German discipline occurred at a French base hospital, were a wouuded German soldier and an elderly German officer wero bedded in the same ward. Tho nurse, entering the ward in tho middle of tho night, found the private feebly endeavouring to put on his clothes. 'She was horrified, because tho man was danger-ously-wounded, but the soldier said ho had boon ordered by tho officer to bring him a drink of water. She fumed to tho officer, whoso wounds were very slight- "Don't you know you might have caused his death?" she expostulated. "I am his officer, and I required a drink," was tho haughty response.
