THE ITALIAN CAMPAIGN
A REDOUBT OCCUPIED Bj; Telegraph—Press AEsociation-CopyriElit (Rec. August 20, 8.50 p.m. Rome, August 20. An Italian communique says:—Wo expelled the defenders of I'ozzialti in tho Port Tonale zone, and occupied the Montpaterno Tedoubt on the Upper liionz. We captured a line of trenches near Trecroci, and completely repulsed all counter-attacks on our positions in the Tolmino sector. Wo progressed in tho Carso district.. AN AUSTRIAN CLAIM.' (Roc. August 20, 11.25 p.m.) Amsterdam, August 20. Austrian official.—"Wo repulsed si* attacks on the Tolmino bridgehead, which is still firmly held." ENTHUSIASM OF'THE ITALIANS. _ Rome, August 20. Officers relate that the enthusiasm of the Italians is unbounded. They go into battle as "if they were going to a i€te. Fighting mtli the bayonet is their greatest delight. One killed thirty Austrians. • and was compelled to chango his bayonet five times in a singlo attack. . There is a deficiency of Austrian ammunitions. It is apparent that they are sparing in their artillery bombardments. The Italian bombardments are a' tempest of iron and fire, blowing up rocks, trenches, and fortifications. The Austrian trenches at Carso and the Isonzo are so constructed as to prevent either escape or surrender, resulting in entire units being buried in tho ruins. This inhumane and foolish defence has resulted in colossal losses, and its continuance will shortly involve the complete destruction of tho southern Austrian army.
