ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY
Tho Wellington Orchestral Society is to make its first appearance after being in recess for some years, under the baton of Mr. Bernard Page, on September 15. in the Town Hall, at a benefit ooncert to be given in aid of the Mayor's Wounded Soldiers' Fund. For this concert Mr. Arthur Alexander has kindly given his services, and is coming up from Dunedin especially to play the Schumann A Minor Concerto for piano and .orchestra. The society has the concerto in active rehearsal. . Musio lovers will no doubt lemember Mr. Alexander's last recital somo months ago. Ho is about to return to England to I take up his duties at one of the leading London musical inatitutions. This will be the last opportunity of hearing this finished and matured artist in' New Zealand before ho goes Home. Had time permitted, it would have been the society's wish to perform his own pianoforte concerto, but unfortunately his early departure precludes this. Mr. Frank Charlton, whoso baritone voice is familir to the Wellington public, has also (riven his services to this coilcert. The prices are fixed at the low figure of 2s. and Is., and an_ extra Is. will be charged for those desiring to reservo their seats. These popular prices should encourage everybody to attend the concert, and enable the_ society to hand the Mayor & substantial amount' for this very deserving fund. The concert will be an extra one, and not included in the season for the subscribers. The subscription season will bo commenepd'with the concert following.
