MAGISTRATE'S COURT

AN INTERRUPTED FIGHT m ■ "Throwin' bricks," "cattey blaw3," and other such phrases inevitably associated with the juvenile male, wore voiced i:a the Magistrate's Court yesterday during the hearing of a rather unique, albeit amusing, assault ease. The centre figure l ; in the little drama were two adults', while a bevy of chubby-facocl juveniles played lesser roles. The case was tho sequel to certain happenings in the Basin Reserve on the evening of July 22 last, when the mother of one ol' two boya who were having a bout of fisticuffs on the green, interrupted the battle, and while she held the boy who was fighting' her son, the son pitched in and had his revenge for the blows administered before the arrival of his mother. Tho witnesses to this incideut, seven young boys, all gave their versions of the affair in the Court yesterday, after hearing which tho Magistrate (Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.) decided to convict the interfering mother (Mr?, Rosa. Woods) of assault, and ordered her to pay the costs of tho case.

POLICE CASES. (Before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.) Robert Gray was remanded to' August 23 on tho application of Chief-Detective Boddam, on a charge of obtaining boots to the value of £H 3s. from James William Martin by faJsc pretences. John Coomber was ordered to pay 10s. per week towards the maintenance of his children. Nicholas Albert iWaddren was charged with the theft of a pound and a quarter, of butter from Trentham Camp. He was convicted, and sentenced to a. month's imprisonment. Maddren had been employed as a labourer at the camp. For drunkenness, Daniel Fitzpatrick and Wm. Perry Brady were each fined 10s., in default, 48 hours' imprisonment. Five first offending inebriates were dealt with.
