OVER 5000 MEN' ITS ANSWER TO THE CALL It is just twelve months since the call for men for- active service was made throughout New Zealand, and in that year the response in "Wellington City and suburbs lias been so great that the enlistment is equal to sixty-six per cent. of the single men of military age in this area, and getting on for 40 per cent, of them are at tho front, in training, or waiting to be called up next week. No doubt numbers of the men enlisting in • Wellington hail frofii districts outside tho city and suburbs, but it is evident that the city has contributed' a big quota. City ... 7934 6037 13,971 Petone 563 631 1,194 Lower liutt 321 280 601 Miramar < 155 174 329 Onslow 133 174 . 307 Karori 110 113 223 Eastbourne 63 42 105 Totals 9279 7451 16,730 The number of enlistments at the Wellington office up to the end of last iveek totalled over 5090, which is a very fine record. The great majority of the men who enlisted are single. •
