Persistent German attacks between the Narew and the Bug wero successfully repulsed. "The enemy on-Friday'and Saturday strengthened his offensive against our position along the Siamlitz-Lukow railway. We stopped the. movement, and captured six hundred Austro-Germans, and some machme-guns. "Tlio enemy bombarded the_ fortifications at Novo Georgievsk with his heavy guns, and made a series of partial attacks, against different sections of tlio fortress. These, generally speaking, were repulsed. :" ' "Our advance guards captured two lines of German trenches southward of Dunacow, on the Zlota Lipa, killing the defenders. The Russian front from Kovno through the Suwalka region, along the Bobr. across the Warsaw-Petrograd railway and the Bug, to fifty miles westward of Brestlitovsk, is now an almost straight hue, with a slight outward curve. ' Novo Georgievsk is invested/ but the Russians are confident that the fortress will give a good account of itself. GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Rec. August 16, 8.50 p.m.) , „„ Amsterdam, August 15. , A German official communique states: "General von Bulow, in the Kinffishky district, pushed back the Russians north-eastward, taking prisoner 2350 "South from'' Kovno we repulsed the enemy, taking one thousand prisoners. Our troops are drawing nearer tile fortress. ''The Russians between the Narew and the Bug have continued a stubborn resistance. "The ring round Novogorgievsk is no narrower. Wo have gained wound on all fronts. . "The enemy again tenaciously resisted Prince Leopold's advanced army We pierced the enemy's positions northwards of Losice and between Losice and Miedzyrzeczs. ■ The enemy is retreating. "General von Woyrsch, between August 8 and August 14, took prisoner four thousand of tho enemy, including twenty-two officers and nine machineguns. . "The Russians, on a line from Rozauka northward to Vlodava and south-westward to Slawatycze and Miedzyrzeczs, again attempted a resistance but- under the pressure of our sneedy attack, continue to retreat" ' [Losice is 70 miles east of Warsaw, and Miedzyrzeczs is about 17 miles 'ea-st-soutli-east of Losice. These places are on the line of advance from Warsaw to the fortress of Brest Litowslc, which lies 40 miles east and % little north of Miedzyrzeozs. The Duma has approved a Bill organising consultative mixed commissions of experts to be attached to the Ministries of War, Commerce, Communications, and Agriculture, to improve tho supply to the army, the output of munitions, the provisioning of tho people, and the reorganising of transport. RUSSIAN TRIBUTE TO BRITAIN'S PART. (Rec. August 16, 9.35 p.m.) . ." . Petrograd, 'August 15. •Tlio publication by Sir George. Buolianan (British Minister at Petrograd)' of a summary showing tho extent of Britain's participation in the war duced an excellent effect. The Russian journal "Novoe Vremya" pays a tribute to the "priceless services of the_ British Fleet," and mentions Britain's creation of an enormous army, emphasising at the same timo the danger of a premature move on tho Western front.
