MILTON MILITARY SCANDALS 1 HENDERSON SENTENCED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dimedin, August 16. , Colin Bell M'Clymont stood liis retrial at tlio Supreme Court to-day, charged with stealing ;C2l 7-s., canteen money of tho 14tli ilegiment, and was acquitted. In summing up, Judge Sim commented on accused's «ood fortune in having been, acquitted on a former char-go, and expressed the opinion that accused did not leavo the Court with an unstained! character. British officers were supposed to be gentlemen and men of honour and integrity, and it was clear accused waj not that. His Honour sentenaed .John Robert Henderson to ono year's imprisonmeii; with hard labour on several charges of stealing moneys of the regiment, regretting that a promising career has been cancelled.

The Madge Neill Fraser Memorial. At the beginning of the war Miss Neill F'raser, a very well-known Scottish golfer, felt impelled to offer her services to Serbia, a . country whoso sorry plight under the ravages of war and decimation by disease was making its silent appeal to everyone. Sho placed herself at tho disposal of the Scottish Military Hospital in_ Serbia, and was prepared to do anything that was asked of hor. Unfortunately, after a short period of nursing, she herself contracted typhus fever, from which slip did not recover, and she has been laid to rest practically on tho field of lier labours. Golfers in tho United Kingdom are anxious to raise, as a memorial .to her fine work, sufficient money to establish a second hospital of 200 beds in Serbia, at an approximate cost of £5000. Although the schcme was only taken up in April last, the fund had reached a total of £1800 oil June 23, and the organisers feel assured that the object will be attained. It has been suggested that lady golfers in New Zealand should help to the extent of providing at least sufficient for ono bed (£2o), and all clubs affiliated to tho Ladies'j- Golf Union in New Zealand have been 1 circularised, asking them to help by holding a competition in aid of the fund. If hearty support is given by the fifty clubs on the list, it is more than probable that two' beds would bo provided for, and individual golfers would feel that, at a very small cost to themselves, they had helped to provido what will be of very material help to unfortunate Serbia.
