Slogan, who was finishing well, was a- similar distance away third, and Buapani, who made up a lot of ground in the straight, was only a sect away fourth. Then, close up, came •Birklme and Jeannot. Going past Cuttss Diavolo still bad Styrax as his nearest attendant, with Bracbnrn. Moddite, Kilmeny, and Awahou nest. Bunmng along the tact, St. Blnm'- moved up into third place, behind Diavolo and Styrax. Three furlongs - from home St. Elmn ran . past Styrax, but was unable to reach Diavolo, who won by' a couple of lengths. Golden Grape fell at this fence, and the order was then Morning. -Bonny, The Brewer, Kim, 'Fagot, Tim Doolan, and Ngatoa, with Golden Glow tailed off. Kim' fell heavily at the small sod wall, and Bonny joined Morning at the Kennels double, Ngatoa being close in behind, . with Fagot and Tim Doolan next. Morning was showing the way again before the straight was entered for the first time, and .Tim Doolan ran into third place behind Bonny. Naupata ran off at the carriage paddock, and. Ngatoa ran, past Tim Doolan at the stand double, but at Cutts's Ngatoa jump, cd badly, letting Tim Doolan into second place. The race , was now between Morning and Tim Doolan, and going to the Kennels double for the second time, the-favourite looked like overhauling the Hawko's Bay representative. The latter, however, had a lot in hand, and 'went on a^ain'to Svin by four lengths, about one hundred yards separating second and third, with Ngatoa fourth. -Fagot andThe -Brewer ran off at the Kennels, and Golden Glow was pulled' Up.
