Concerning tho : Mararoa/s hold-up -at Auckland, it is stated (says a northern exchange), that the men's chief complaint is t-lrnt under the vessel's present running, which is intermittent, with a break of -a fortnight , after "each double trip, they are setting only about five months'- work in tho year. To this the Union Company rejoins tliat it is making the men a--very liberal offer of £10 (or a month's pay) for. tho double trip, which occupies a fortnight, and that it does not proposo to otter more. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. have been advised by Messrs., Barber and Co., of New York, that a steamer named the Suruga has cleared the American port for Wellington, via Panama Canal. Sho Should show up here about September 10. This ■is the second steamer under charter to Messrs. Barber and Co. to como down to New Zealand ports. Tho Chalister (tho first vessel) is due at Wellington any time now. The Koromiko will leave Wellington for Timaru ahd Dunedin to-day to load nroduce for Sydney. For Melbourne direct the W-aimaxino will leave Wellington this afternoon. . , , . Captain Bollens has advised the Marino Department that stores wero landed at Farewell Spit- yesterday.
