CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES
' (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WoodvlHe, August 13. 'A man named Frank Stoke, with ,i i number of aliases, was senfcenoed to-day to thrco months' imprisonment in Wellington Gaol for obtaining money under false pretences. A couple of days ago ho bought a large farm, not minding ihe big price asked. A deposit was to be paid by a supposed brotlier arriving yesterday. Meantime accused obtained 10s. on a valueless cheque for £5 drawn on a Palmerston bank. The land agent had the curiosity to telegraph to the bank, and discovered that he had been victimised.
